FAQ

FAQ

1. Should I wash the leaves first?

Nope! With Pu-erh, you wash away the dust. With Bi Lo Chun, that “dust” is actually precious white fuzz (trichomes) that holds all the flavor and healthy stuff. If you rinse it, you’re literally pouring the best part down the drain. Skip the rinse!

2. How hot should the water be?

Keep it cool. If you use boiling water (100°C), you’ll “cook” the leaves, and it’ll taste like boiled grass.

  • The Sweet Spot: Around 75°C – 80°C.

  • Pro Tip: If you don’t have a thermometer, just pour boiling water into your mug/cup, wait 5 minutes, and then add the tea.

3. The “Cool Way” to brew: Top-Drop Method

This is the “pro move” for Bi Lo Chun. Instead of pouring water over the leaves:

  1. Fill your glass with hot water first.

  2. Drop the tea leaves on top.

  3. Watch them sink like tiny green snails. It looks cool and keeps the leaves from getting “burnt” by the stream of water.

4. How much tea do I need?

  • For a small teapot (Gongfu): About 5g (one big teaspoon) for $150$ml.

  • For a regular mug: 3g is plenty.

5. How long to wait? (Steeping Time)

Bi Lo Chun is fast. Really fast.

  • 1st time: 15-20 seconds.

  • 2nd time: 10-15 seconds (the leaves are already wet, so they give flavor instantly).

  • After that: Add 10 seconds for every new round. You can usually get 4 to 5 good cups out of one serving.

6. Why is my tea cloudy?

Don’t panic! If your Bi Lo Chun looks a bit “misty” or has tiny hairs floating in it, that’s a sign of high quality. Those are the tiny hairs from the tea buds. They make the tea feel creamy and sweet.
